The Vertical Nature of Faith

The forms in this series are created with a Venetian technique called, “Pastarelli.” The process requires pulling approximately 150 feet of cane which is then cut and spirals upward around the vessel. The work connects with refuge, harbor, dwelling. Additionally, the Shelter Series has a cornucopia form, representing vessels that contain abundance.

Inspiration

Living near the waters of the Pacific Northwest the beauty and lifesaving qualities of a lighthouse have long been a fascination. A beacon of light and glass that protects and guides one to a safe harbor. Finding or creating shelter is a uniting element among all beings. Plants die back to the sanctuary of the earth in winter, insects, animals and humans alike seek and build structures to shelter us from the elements.
